THE BERENSTAIN BEARS HIT THE BIG SCREEN

In November, it was announced that the dreams of cubs everywhere will finally come true: The Berenstain Bears are to star in their very first film. Shawn Levy, director of the Night at the Museum movies, has signed on to produce a feature film, a comedy he says will be a mix of live-action and computer animation. Don't buy your popcorn just yet, as the film won't be released until late 2011 at the earliest. We'll have more information about this exciting new adventure for the Bears as the film moves into production.

A NEW BOOK FOR THE NEW YEAR!

The Berenstain Bears Go Out to Eat was published on December 29th. Papa and the cubs take Mama to Bear Country Grill for dinner. What a treat! From getting to the restaurant until dessert time, the night is full of fun and adventure. With the Bears, nothing is boring—especially not a night out on the town!

2009 was a remarkable year for the Berenstain Bears, with new titles, reissues and DVDs. See if you missed any of these books this year.

The year began with The Berenstain Bears' Family Reunion in which the Bears are having a family reunion, and all their relatives are invited. The tree house is ready, the tables are set, and the fun is about to start. Beginning readers will feel like part of the family with this charming verse book.

In The Berenstain Bears' Class Trip, Brother Bear is all set for the big class trip to a honey farm. With Mama, Papa, and Sister Bear in tow for the sweet ride, there is bound to be a sticky adventure ahead!

The Berenstain Bears' Sick Days. Mama takes good care of Sister when she has to stay home from school with a virus for the day. But just as Sister begins to feel better, Mama begins to feel worse. Now, it's Mama's turn to be taken care of for a day!

The Berenstain Bears: Safe and Sound! Brother Bear and Sister Bear love to ride their skateboards. When their usual skating park closes, the only place left to ride is a neighborhood spot where helmets are not the fashion! Will Brother and Sister forget Mama's advice about putting safety first?

From the Living Lights series came The Berenstain Bears Love Their Neighbors, and The Berenstain Bears Play a Good Game. In "Love Their Neighbor," the Berenstain Bears learn an important lesson about finding and giving help in unexpected places. Most of the Berenstain Bears’ neighbors are like the Bear family—they keep their homes neat and clean. Except for the Bogg Brothers who live in a run-down shack. The Bears learn that being a good neighbor takes more than keeping a nice home.

In "Play a Good Game," Brother and Sister Bear love to play soccer, and their own Papa Bear is the coach of their team. But, during one tough game, they learn important lessons about fair play and sportsmanship for young and old, alike.

Also in the Living Lights series are these two books: The Berenstain Bears Faithful Friends. When Sister Bear makes a new friend she finds it can cause tension with her old ones. She learns to branch out and make new friends while reconnecting with and more fully appreciating those she already has.

In The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks, the Berenstain cubs act out the first Thanksgiving complete with costumes, props and a full Thanksgiving feast. But will Sister Bear's pet turkey play the part of dinner? This book teaches how God provided for the pilgrims and reminds children of God's many blessings.

There were new releases of favorites such as the holiday classic, The Berenstain Bears' Christmas Tree. While searching for the perfect Christmas tree for the Bear Family’s Tree House, the Bear Family learns a lesson in kindness and respect of others and their belongings. Finding the perfect Christmas tree is very important for Papa Bear and the cubs. But while hunting for that one special tree, the family meets up with other animals that live in them. Papa, Brother, and Sister realize that the trees are perfect homes for the animals and show kindness and love for their fellow Bear Country friends by not cutting them down. The animals from the forest work together to thank the Bear Family in a wonderful and unique way.

The Berenstain Bears Go Back to School came out in a new paperback edition. In this modern classic, Brother and Sister Bear are off to begin a new school year. The cubs are in new grades, with new teachers, cool new school supplies, and tons of new stuff to learn and explore. The first day is a little scary, but also exciting, and by the closing bell Brother and Sister can hardly wait to see what will happen on day two!

The Berenstain Bears I Can Read Collection has just been published featuring three great books that make reading fun. The Berenstain Bears Clean House, The Berenstain Bears' New Kitten, and The Berenstain Bears Down On The Farm. All three paperback books are housed in a handsome slipcover.

NEW BERENSTAIN BEARS DVD ALSO RELEASED!

2009 marked the 30th anniversary of Berenstain Bears on TV. For the first time, some of their classic early specials were released on DVD. In the new DVD collection, The Berenstain Bears’ Halloween Treats, the furry clan returns with jack-o'-lantern adventures that will make your bones tingle with fright and delight! The bear cubs are called upon to use their best scouting skills to solve the great pumpkin disappearance, brave a spooky old mansion, ward off ghosts and save their much-loved Bat Cave. In the end, the cubs learn that spooky things always come with a simple explanation and that's a Halloween treat for them! This is a compilation of episodes from the original CBS series.

The Berenstain Bears: Kindness, Caring & Sharing DVD was released with their original Valentine’s Day network special, “Comic Valentine” plus four additional episodes including "Messy Room," "Trouble With Friends," "Too Much Birthday," and "Go Fly A Kite."

The Berenstain Bears' Springtime Surprises DVD includes the classic "Easter Surprise," "Play Ball," "Save the Bees," and "The Berenstain Bears and the Truth." Original animation cells from "Easter Surpise" can be found in our Gallery.
