LEARN ABOUT OTHER BERENSTAIN BEARS BOOKS!

November is a time to give thanks, and the Bears are often reminded how lucky they are. Here are books that provide opportunities for young readers to realize that thanksgiving is more than just a one day holiday

The Berenstain Bears and the Prize Pumpkin

  • Papa Bear loses sight of what's important around Thanksgiving when he tries to beat out Farmer Ben in the Pumpkin Contest. After Farmer Ben tells Papa Bear that he has a "nice little" pumpkin patch, Papa Bear does everything in his power to nurture the pumpkin he calls, "Giant." Mama Bear tries to get him to realize that there are other things that are more important than winning a silly contest. The whole family realizes that they should be thankful everyday for what they have.

  • The Berenstain Bears Count Their Blessings
  • Mama Bear is tired of hearing how many Bearbie dolls Lizzy Bruin has and how many Game Bear video games Cousin Freddy just got. During a thunderstorm, Mama gets her cubs to realize that love and a good home are much more valuable than material possessions.

  • The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks

The Berenstain Bears delivers hand made furniture to friends on a farm. For payment, the family gives Papa some produce and a fat turkey called Squanto. Papa's mouth is already watering, imagining the turkey complimenting his Thanksgiving dinner, but Sister bear is horrified. Squanto is much too handsome to eat. Besides, she's "never met her Thanksgiving dinner before." She wants to keep Squanto as a pet, but Papa bear isn't convinced.
